Does anyone have one of the crew cab toter style trucks? What kind of mileage do you get empty and with a load

I know of a 2003 with only 50,000 miles that only pulled a travel trailer coming up for sale, curious how it compares to the smaller 5.9 or 6.7 in the 1 ton trucks, I know it is a lot more truck and a million miles is not out of the ?

the company has a '04 peterbilt with the 8.3, this is a tandem axle dump, weighs 22,000lbs empty and fully loaded its 50 to 55,000, the truck runs in the mountains between 5000 and 7500ft elevation, mileage empty is 9, loaded its 8, power is adequate, for the load, but its definitely not a big cam 400, [ it doesn't get 4 mpg either] it has a 8LL transmission and is about like driving one of the old 290 trucks, not bad, considering the difference in fuel mileage made the truck payments when it was new, the truck will run 80 mph all day long loaded, on the flats, drops to 55 when i pull a mountain pass with a 6% grade takes 2 sometimes 3 downshifts at full loaded weights, the pass road is 11 miles long if this truck was a rv toter mileage would be up considerable and it would just be loafing power wise, my personal truck has a first gen 5.9, great power and mileage for a 1 ton pickup, but its making about half the power the 8.3 is, i mean there is a big difference! both truck are going strong bumping on 300,000 miles, take care of it and a million miles between overhauls is defiantly possible, not to mention you would have enough truck to handle the load, unlike a pickup, as for general driving experience , the pete drives and handles just like a oversize pickup, and its pretty quiet and tight inside running down the road, tilt and telescoping steering wheel good stereo, air ride seat ect, and this pete has a Chalmers suspension, one of the hardest riding ones out there, and even empty its not bad, if that freightliner is sitting on a air ride suspension, you'll think you have a luxury car

it could depend on trans and rear gears, it has been said that auto can get around14-15 empty, loosing about 4-5 mpg loaded, depending on trailers, the good thing about bigger is that more heavy duty built that a p/u, longer lasting on drive componets, brakes, tires, roomier cabs,,hada 2004 f-650, cat engine [slug] 6-sp, 4-dr, made into 5th wheel r-v hauler, lost job, sold, truck, kept 5th, now have p/u..some day back to bigger...

It is actually an FL60 with the 8.3, single axle air ride, allison automatic, 3:58 rear end, 22.5 super singles

missed what your going to use the truck for, but that should be a nice rig if you can get it bought, you'll be very happy with the ability to handle the loads so much better and safer than a 1 ton,, fuel millage should be close to the same, if your not hooked to 50,000 lbs and just as comfortable if not more so, [ i rode in a 2012 crew cab dodge the other day, the first thing id do if it was mine is throw those horrible seats in the dumpster, the most uncomfortable seat ive sat in in quite awhile]

I acquired a FL70 with an 8.3 and a 9 speed, been hauling a 28 foot gooseneck trailer with a camper and my tractor weighing roughly 15,000 lbs. Truck weighs 12,000. I'm averaging just north of 12 MPG with loads of power to boot. You should be very happy with the truck if you decide to buy it. Mark
