My dumb question re 10mm

Would someone educate me on what is the big deal with 10mm sockets. It sounds like many people have a lot of them, and the earth stops rotating if one is lost. Ha, Ha, Ha.

It's just that they're so commonly used that, of all the sockets in a set that are likely to be forgotten out somewhere, the 10mm is a very likely culprit. Even more so because they're small and easy to overlook.

Depends on what you tend to work on of course.

I have a couple 10mm sockets. They don't get lost because I haven't used them since I quit messing around with Japanese dirt bikes.

What stops the world from turning is when my 1/2" and 9/16" stubby combo wrenches go missing.

And besides all that NOTHING SAE will work. There is usually a SAE wrench that will work on any metric bolt or nut. 1/2 works for 13 mm etc. For 10 mm 3/8 will not go on and 7/16 12 point (have not tried 6 point) will not turn it.

Thanks guys for the responses. I just added Stubby Combinations to my want list. I must be missing something there or I don't do enough wrenching. :) The more I think about it, maybe that's why I have several combination wrenches in my drawer that I sawed off. Ha, Ha, Ha.

I tend to loose the 1/2" and 9/16" so I go on ebay and try and find American Made Replacements or extras.

Thanks again.

Thanks for confirming my math. When I first saw the posts regarding 10MM I did the Math thinking it served multiple sizes. Not the case.

Merry Christmas.

I tend to misplace 10MM wrenches, not sockets. IH truck engines with 10 MM head bolts tended to wear Snap On impacts out, chrome sockets were a joke on them. I've bought my last 10 MM Snap On wrench as the prices are ridiculous. The Klutch wrenches from Northern work well for me. My $.02 worth!

If you are into tractor pulling you need a 10 mm to turn the Bosch pump up.---Tee

I guess I'm the weirdo. In over 40 years of wrenching and using 10mm sockets and wrenches I've never lost one. I always put my tools back in the toolbox when finished. :)

Most of the wrenches I have lost had help getting lost, and it wasn't from me. I'm pretty sure they went home in someone elses pocket.

Both my Fords there are some 12mm then there are a boat load of 10mm and a few 9mm & 8mm in the dashboard. Now here and there I ran across a 7mm and 6mm inside the instrument cluster. Changing those little tiny indicator bulbs. Funny how metric sockets will work on some of the nuts and bolts on lawn mowers. Must be magic. If you pull out your SAE Tools they fit too. Scratch my head a little. Soc8alist plot.

No way that little pump could feed more two cylinders on these engines! I think I got it when I bought a 4020 turbo and manifold. They guy had alot of that kind of stuff so I bought him out...he needed money because of a divorce

Phil, Are you working on DT engines? The DT 530 started smoking like a locomotive and after pulling valve cover had exhaust coming out of intake ports.

but are they the right hand version or the left handed version

On my Facebook page a friend that has a motorcycle shop posted a picture of a 10mm socket jammed onto the seat bolt of a customer's dirt bike. The head of the bolt is on the underside of the rear fender. Must have seen the same joke.

Or cratered multi million dollar mars probe into mars because one contractor used Customary (inch) units and NASA
doesn't for a mid course correction. Jim
