Cast iron or cast steel pulley to weld

So the kid brought me the broken pulley for me to weld up. It is in worse shape then I had hoped for. He also came with a box of Ni-rod which will help. It is a spoke pulley with 5 of 6 spokes. It is broken at 2 of the spokes and also 2 places on the pulley part it self. I figure I'll make a plate to go across all the spokes and weld it on to help make it hold up. May even figure out a way to lay a piece of metal all the way around the pulley part it self.

Unless it's a real odd/special pulley, simply replace it. Stock cast iron pulleys aren't real expensive.

What's it on? Single or multiple groove? I.D.? O.D.?

It is off an cement mixer. I'd guess it is about 12 inches in diameter maybe. The kid got the thing for free so he is in turn trying to keep it as cheap as he can. Plus I enjoy a challenge when it comes to fixing things like this. Single groove. Plus my charge for it is not all that bad either since all I ask is a case or Barley pop.

From an old mixer I would bet it is cast steel.I have a couple of old Sears mixers that are more weld than original metal showing.Welds like butter. Those pulleys will snap from somebody trying to slide the mixer around by grabbing that pulley. They turn slow,if it's off a little it is no big deal.I have one where the spokes are actually bent,it has about an inch of runout.Never throws a belt,so I never bothered to replace it.A new pulley was $17.4-5 years ago.

I've braised a number of pulleys like that over the years. One just like you're working on and some flat belt pulleys. Braised the pulleys and handle on this old planer.

The 12 inch was an estimate of how big it was. It was in fact 14.5 inch in diameter. It has been welded and gone now. In the center area where a couple of spokes where broken I put a fish plate on so as to make it a bit stronger

(quoted from post at 09:14:02 09/24/18) If your asking me sorry my phone is a dumb phone no pictures of any sort

BUT,ya have a camera that will take videos

That maybe true but with windows 10 and dial up to post a video would take me all day if not all day and night too. I've tried to post a few pictures since I got this windows 10 computer and it takes 30 minutes or so to down load so I have pretty much given up. Been wondering if I got a scanner if it would work better

Need to make pictures smaller.. Ya need Jasc--"Paint Shop Pro" by Jasc Software.
I have both versions 5 and 6.. Bought them both at the Electronics Goodwill in Eugene, OR.
