Briggs Vangard twin cylinder

I have a Briggs engine 35 horse in a small dozer. It will not crank, but I have lights and the oil cooler fan works. I have by passed the operator present switch and also the brake on to start switch, so these are not an issue. I have been running the dozer for some time with these not connected so that is not the problem. The wiring seems very simple and I have traced it looking for loose wires. I need some quick fix solutions that only you guys might know. Thanks, Ellis

Hello Ellis Kinney,

If you battery is good, a quick check is to take a jumper cables and go from battery + to the starter terminal. You may just get it going. Make sure it's in neutral!

A test light is the easiest, or a volt meter, start checking for power to the small terminal of the starter solenoid when trying to start it.

If there are 2 small terminals, possibly one is a ground. Sometimes safety switches are used to make the ground.

With a make and model you may be able to find a wiring diagram online.

Thanks to all, I figured it out. My dozer does not have a pto, but there is a lever to activate the hydraulic remote that turns it on. There is a sticker that reads (never start dozer with pto engaged). The lever came disconnected from the safety switch. I moved the lever after tracing some wires to see where they went. I didn't know it had that safety switch. All is Good. Thanks again, Ellis
