what is this gauge used for?

One blade is just over three inches long and the other is over 6. The blades are .031 thick and are made of brass. It looks like a long, thin jack knife. How old will this be and does it have any value?

Looks like a very specialized tool, I'm curious! A friend had a laundry fork that no one could identify and my wife found a website for antique tools that identified it.

Fuel Gauge for a distillate tractor allowing both tanks to be measured (low likely hood of correct answer) Jim

Being made of brass suggests that it might have an electrical application. My first guess was a tool for setting the points gap on a magneto, but 3" and 6" respectively, and both of them being 0.031" suggests that it must be for something else.

Pure speculation. Remember reading on here about Fordson tractors that the main bearings would get worn allowing magnets to get to far away from magneto coils making them hard to start as they would not generate enough voltage for the coil boxes. Some found parking them on a hill so the crank would move a certain way helped. So was this gage used to check/set magnets on Fordson tractors. Again pure speculation.

its used to gauge the worlds monetary standards. Dunno what the copper colored thingy is.
Well. some smart aleck had to say it.

I had been goes to put a $100 on the table, but I knew that it would be to tempting for many to over look.
