Anything change Sept. 1st, on Computer standards???

The reason I am asking is I can not login into Patreon. I can get to the site easily. I see that my computer must have dropped the cookies and I need to login to access the writer's account/page, that I regularly I read. When I click on the login it switches to the page with a rotating circle. I assume this is waiting for Patreon's system to do whatever it needs to for me to login. The address bars shows "Identified by DigiCert". Then it goes back to Patreon Inc. The page will not load or change, just a rotating circle. I have let it set there for up to 30 minutes and nothing changes. So I have been unable to get any of the latest chapters of series I am reading.

The reason I am wondering if some standard changed is I usually get a statement emailed to me the first day for each month showing what the donation amount is for that prior month. I did not receive one this month. I have checked and the donation amount has not been sent either. ( It is $1 a chapter. works out to be $4-5 a month)

I did turn in a request for help to Patreon's helpdesk by email and got an automated reply that they would get back to me after the Labor Day holiday, I have not had any other reply yet. So in one way it show their system can still reach me but it is relayed through a Yahoo email account. If I try to directly login it is not connecting.

I do my anti virus updates automatically. I do not do the ones Microsoft sends out. They too often change the way things look and work on my computer. Then I waste hours figuring out how to use my computer again. Also I have trouble after Microsoft's updates with other companies programs not working correctly anymore. I really think Microsoft deliberately screws with anything that is not bought from them.

So I do not know if it a problem on my end or what.

Things change everyday.
threats and vulnerabilities mandate that things change at a very fast pace
that is why it is important to have the most recent operating systems and browsers
the fact you might be caught in the java script exploits might indicate that you may not be "up to date"

I goobled patreon log in and it worked fine
but I have no problem using win10 and chrome and doing updates at every oportunity

Tried to respond two or three times last night about getting around the circle jerk.

You see what happend. The post just came up blank.

I do not know who or what that company is ?
But anyhow here at work a lot of "funny" stuff happened to our in house computers and our website around that time too.

go down to "Site Comments" on this forum and read up on some notices posted by the admin here.
There is a mandated push from google to have websites switch from not secured (not encrypted) to secured(encrypted).
It is suppose to happen to this website sometime soon.

The above may or may not be the problem with the Patreon website.

I see Patreon is now a secured website (green padlock symbol in address bar).
No idea if they were secure last week.

Updating your browser should cure the problem.

I am running windows 10 and firefox browser, the circle screen appeared for maybe 4 seconds before showing the login page.

Yes.. security certificates are being updated as the old ones are not longer safe. And some browsers will NOT accept the old invalid ones so you have to go back to explorer or edge to get those sites to work correctly as those browsers will still work with the old and the new. Other browsers have be updated to only accept the correct and new certificates and will """ not display""" the old or illegal page.

Why... The due date is long passed to upgrade.. so to keep your long in and password info safe, the newer browsers correctly block an illegal or dangerous page that anyone can hack your info.

Answer to problem?? you have to use different browses till evey web site finally gets a code writer to upgrade their material.

Well I updated everything and still no go. Sent another email to Patreon. Maybe they will reply this time. I am sure it is some kind of updated on their end that does not like my computer.

I checked and If I have JAVA on my computer then the program is hidden to where I can't find it to turn it off or update it.

Then I got to go through all the crap Microsoft felt it needed to "HELP/Change". Been dealing with it over the last several hours an still finding stuff that does not work or has changed how it works.

Peoed me that the first thing after the UP dates, they asked me if I wanted to change my home page to a Microsoft site. NOOOOOO IF I wanted Microsoft in my daily life I would have already had that site as my home page. Then had to hunt around to get the appearance of the web browser back to what I had. Just love them installing "new" features that I then have to go turn off.

What is this "Patreon" place, in keeping with the theme of this site it must be an old tractor place, but I don't recall seeing a mention of it at any of the old iron sites I peruse?

OR???

It is a company that allows people to get donations for their creative work. The site acts kind of like Paypal does when selling on Ebay. The site allows them to set up a page that they can build to show their work. Then Patreon handles all payments/donations/patronage. They keep around 10% but they handle the credit cards and payment back to the creator. Plus giving them a site to show their work.

It can be writers, singers, artists, even bloggers. So it is just an easy way for me to pay/donate to someone that I think I owe something for their work that entertained me.

The fellows I donate to earn maybe $1000 a month for this. So not enough to live on but a good sideline. It also encourages them to write more often. The one fellow started this series 5 years ago. He is now retired and now writes 2-3 chapters each month verses one every other month when he was working full time. These stories would never be on a best sellers list. They would never be published for that mater. I like the series and it is over 100 chapters long right now and I have been reading it for 4 years. So it cost me $25 for years worth of entertainment. You would pay that easily for a movie and refreshments.

The most common would be videos. YouTube changed how they pay creators for their videos last year. So if your a fellow with a smaller viewership you ended up not getting any money anymore. So many of the smaller creators have Patreon accounts.

The creators/writers I support write science fiction. Each of them have a structured features, verses level of donation. So in my case I give them $1 for each new chapter they write. In return I get to download the story weeks in advance of when it is released on some free sites. If I would give $2 a chapter, the one fellow hired an artist to illustrate his characters, so you would get those pictures. I also get emails telling me when there is new chapter to read. I like it because I do not have to daily check the free sites for anything new. Also with the chapters being a PDF file it is easy to download and then read later off line. The donation is automatic so I do not have to do anything after setting it up. I get an email at the end of each month with a receipt for my donation/patronage. Patreon just debits my card once each month for that amount. Simple and safe in that Pateron is a known company that is not going to sneak a massive charge on my card.
