Dish washer drain issues

Got called in to daughter's problems with a her Whirlpool dishwasher. Rollabout unit with hose that attaches to kitchen faucet. Complaint was that it was draining slowly. Had repairman out and for a hefty fee he monkeyed around, and blew out drain hose with air compressor. Worked better for awhile, and now back to a slow flow, slightly more than a dribble. Have checked and cleared the drain hose, with compressed air, and a wire probe. no visible obstructions. Blowing into it by mouth shows no obstructions either. Pump motor is clean, had it out and it turns over OK, impeller clean, as are passage ways. Turning over the impeller, there is one part of the rotation where the motor feels like passing through a magnetic field. one per revolution. Wondering if this is normal, or should there be more than one field the impeller has to turn through? Should I be looking to replace drain motor, or are there other issues I need to address first? Replacement is a 5 minute job and $65.

The glass machines I work on have an "evacuation "pump . That one rotation bump is correct. Make sure the paddle blades are not all chewed up. Should be nice a square. If you change the pump make sure to remove the magnet. Very handy item to play around with.

Pump is like new. No damage to impeller. Thinking 8 blades. Checked inlet as best I could. No obstructions. Hose seems clear. Can't get my inspection camera up the hose.

When you turn the impeller and feel the magnetic bump, can you see if the motor is turning too? Sounds like a magnetic drive pump. There is no direct connection between the motor and the impeller, just a magnet that drives the impeller. That's so if the impeller hits an obstruction the motor can continue to run without damage. Sounds like maybe the motor is not turning freely.

My dishwasher did the same thing a while back, started leaving water standing in the bottom. I took everything apart, didn't find anything wrong, put it back and so far has worked. I suspect there may have been an obstruction in the impeller and it fell out when I took it apart.

Check the filter screen, be sure it is properly fitted and no holes from silverware falling in the bottom and damaging it.

Be sure the drain is clear under the sink where the hose connects.

That is good. One of the big dish macines had a buzzing sound in the pump. One of the guys found part of a plastic bowl sucked in behind the impeller. One of the glass washers just refused to fill correctly. Finnaly found one of the little closure tags from a loaf of bread stuck up in the flap valve. Hope you find something!!

Going to add to your reply. The glass washers in the bars...the
stewards put the ashtrays in them to wash now and then. Man I wish
they wouldn't! !! Have you ever seen what happens when a cigarette
filter goes through a pump!!!??? That cellulose filter turns into a
zillion little fibers and plugs up screens like you cannot believe.
They swell up and get slimmy. Have to use a tinny stainless steel
scrub brush to get the filters cleaned. Another thing that plugs these
machines up are lemon pits. Plug up all of the jets in the spray arms.

Ours did similar a couple of times, found a small piece of broken glass in the pump, really hard to see when it was wet and in the unit. Another time, we had a small, round rubber accent piece from a coffee travel cup that became unglued and was swept out into the hose. It would lodge inside the corrugated drain hose, then sometimes slip to allow flow, then plug up again- really hard to find.

I use AppliancePartsPros.com- they have great prices, quick shipping and quite apropos video help for disassembly/reinstallation that has saved me quite a bit of grief.

YMMV
