OT looking for clothes washer plug

I know this is not tractor related but... Clothes washer has a bad door plug which I have bought to replace but the problem is the mating plug to this one got hot and was probably the problem all along. So I am looking for the mating plug to #8318084 so I could wire it in place of bad plug. I assume I could just wire the 2 wires from plug together and let the washer think it is always closed but would like to find plug if possible. It is a Maytag and I do not have model # handy.

When I input that number, comes back as a Whirlpool part -- which is common. Here's a link. Problem is, it asks for your model number to double-check that it fits.

You guys are misunderstanding I have that part I need to find the plug that connects to it, that is what got hot and melted.

OUCH! That's part of the wiring harness. It's a major cost replacement:

Your best bet would be to look for a used harness. I doubt you'll be able to buy "just" the plug anywhere.

Another question I have is, what went wrong that would have made the plug get so hot?? I would be very afraid to twist those wires together for fulltime connection!

At this point, you would be well advised to contact an appliance professional as to what may have caused that plug to get so hot that it ruined the connection, as replacing the entire harness still may not fix the underlying problem.

I doubt you will find the connector for sale new, by itself.

Go to searsparts.com and enter the model number of the machine, and see if that section of the wiring harness is available. Once you have the part number, you can GOOGLE it for a possible better price.

Also, there's lots of salvaged good used washer parts on ebay, mite find something there.

I probably shouldn't say this, but if you don't have little kids in the house to put at risk, if you CAN'T find a connector you can cut the connector off, and splice the wires together. My Whirlpool washer has operated that way, and for the same reason for probably 10 years.

The last I knew, some commercial machines even found in appt. buildings with kids crawling on the often don't have lid safety switches, that MAY have changed in the last few years.

I have done the same thing, but for a "defective switch". If the connector is melted or damaged by heat, then there is something more going on.

If the connector was not fully inserted into the switch, it's possible that there could have been arcing going on. That's a best-case scenario. However, it's also possible that the root problem lies somewhere else within the machine.

Still, it just shouldn't happen that the switch or the wiring be able to get that hot.

KCM, the full motor current passes through those cheap-a$$ed switches, and it's NOT uncommon for them to fail and take the connector with them.

If ya take a picture of it and post pic, I have a Maytag that I am hauling in for scrap. I'll cut the plug off of the harness and mail it to you..

I agree Bob, cheap components tend to fail. But let's look at something else - the only one here who has seen/inspected the damage is the OP. We don't even have photos to go on. From a fire safety perspective, it would be idiotic to recommend to someone to twist wires together and bypass the switch and connector when the problem could be somewhere else.

There are constantly power surges and brownouts coming into every home every day. If the surges are bad, they can play tricks with wiring and circuits, causing them to do funny things -- things they "shouldn't" do.

You may be OK with suggesting to twist the wires together (and it may well fix the problem), but I recommend he seek help from someone who 1. has professional experience and 2. can visually see what the problem or damage is. I'm not willing to give solutions to things like this when it could potentially result in a much more serious problem. Due to the melted connection point, it should be fine to replace those components with known good components, but it would be unwise at this point to bypass them.....[i:04384e2296]except[/i:04384e2296] for testing purposes.

As for bypassing the switch, there's another safety factor to consider, which is what I believe you referred to in your post, and that is concerning kids. When bypassing the switch, the agitator doesn't stop when the lid is opened, which creates another safety issue.

When we stop for gas, it's not unusual for someone else to pull up and gas their vehicle while leaving their engines running. I realize that the original causes for concern have mostly been addressed over the years, but it's still a state law to shut your engine off when fueling. I see people sliding in and out of their vehicles while the pump nozzle fills the tank. I see people start the fill process and then go inside while the pump continues to fill. I see people smoking while pumping gas.

Virtually every single one of these people, if I comment on anything, will tell me to shove it up my tailpipe. Why, because I don't appreciate them taking chances with MY life, or with the lives of others??

I'm not trying to "get on" anyone. I just wonder why there are so many people who refuse to be considerate of other people? I can understand when it comes to most things, but when it could potentially endanger someone's life, what then? And why does it seem I'm the only one willing to speak out about things like this anymore? doesent have to be original go to auto store and buy connector with pig tails in same or larger gauge
and splice it in. simple
