Electric Shaver needed

After using good ol' Gillette razors forever this old buzzard's skin isn't what it used to be. After I shave there my wife says I should call 911. I'm hoping this knowledgeable group here can put me onto a good electric shaver and save my face.

Used a Remington for many years, but when it gave up I bought a Norelco rotary. Much happier with it.

I hate shaving but do it during the summer. I shave maybe once every 2 or 3 days some times more. I have been using one of those 5 blade ones and it works fine and I use edge shave cream. What shave cream you use is as important as anything. Nowhere in say 30 or so days I will not shave again till spring. Never found an electric razor that would last very long with this old German beard

I started out with a Remington when I started shaving . It was the worst shaver I ever used. They are bad on pulling on beard. I went with Norelco and no problems and heads hold up better than Remington.

Even though about letting it grow out a bit? My oldest "child" is 30 and has never seen my clean-shaven.

My whiskers are fairly tough and nothing will shave them like a real razor but sometimes I have to resort to an electric . A Braun rechargeable foil razor works reasonably well for me . Not quite a baby bottom shave , more like a three o'clock shadow rather than a five.

Norelco Rotary since forever... When you first start using one it will irritate your face a bit, don't give up it will get better.

Had a couple electrics but I shave in the shower. You do your wash thing starting at you head so some soap has a chance to soften your beard. After about ten minutes of shower useing a little kit mirror, just rub you shick or Gillette razor on the bar soap and shave. Never nicks and comes out baby bottom smooth. Been shaving like this at least 40 years.

I shaved with a razor for years. Switched a few years ago. Tried Remington. First one lasted about 5 months. Second one didn't make it that long. Tried a Norelco. Its been going for over a year. It doesn't pull whiskers like the Remingtons did and doesn't take as long to shave.

Hey Bob,

I had a beard for 30 years and since it turned white she said "shave it off"! It makes you look older. you know who wears the pants in this household...

Braun makes foil razors that I like much better than Remmington, for not much extra cost. Braun foils and batteries seem to last longer than Remmingtons too.

I get the most cuts and irritation when I try to use a blade that is too dull. I've had the best luck using inexpensive name brand disposable razors that I don't mind throwing away as soon as they get a little bit dull. I buy them several packs at a time on ebay for less than half the cost at local stores.

Gillette makes razors for sensitive skin in most of their model lines, the cartridges are green. Gillette's Mach3 is a very nice razor, but the cartridges are about twice the cost of their twin blade cartridges.

The shaver I posted about below is a Remington. It is around fifteen years old. It has been a good shaver. I have replaced blades twice and batteries once.

I tried a Braun before the Remington. It was a gift that was purchased at walmart. It may have been cheapened to walmart's standards. I was not impressed with it. If you follow their rules and use their cleaner it is pretty costly in up keep. It did shave closer than any electric I have tried. The replacement foils failed at 4-6 months. The shaver failed after about five years, it would not move the blades far enough to cut.

Just bought my son a Phillips Norelco cordless for his first razor. His sister kids him that he only has 4 whiskers but he is getting older. I have had the same one in the past and like it very well and its easy to replace parts as needed. If you have not used an electric before you will hate it for about a month till your face gets used to it for some reason which I cannot explain but can attest to.

I think any one of the suggested razors will do the job. I have been with my forty year old Norelco triple rotary head. Changed the head once.
No matter which one you decide to go with I recommend you give it at least six months to give your skin a chance to acclimate to the shaver.
I went back to the blade a time or two and seeing my face you would think I had a fight with an alley cat.

Maybe you should show her the passage in the Bible that talks about gray hair and what it means. LOL

Back when I was In the Navy I had a beard most of the time. I shaved it off one time and my girl friend at the time had never seen me with out a bread. The first time she saw me with out if she just stood there and ran her hand over her face saying where your beard. I started to grow it back the very next day. Plus it was winter and well a bread is nice to have when it is cold out side. I was stationed in Groton CT so yep it was cold out

Dave --

A Norelco rotary shaver works much better for me than any other electric shaver I've tried, by far. But the shave from an electric shaver doesn't give me the smooth-shaven feeling for a full day, and it's not unusual for me to need another two minutes with my shaver before dinner.

When I want a good, all-day shave, it's razor time. For me, avoiding the lost-a-catfight look requires 1) shaving after a shower, in the shower, 2) using "shave oil" instead of lather, and 3) using a good single-blade or Schick's Slim-Twin razor, which has a "pushy thingy" that pushes the oil-and-whisker crud from between its blades.

There are a number of shave oils on the market, and many of them are insanely priced; I've found Shave Secret shave oil (which many Wal-Mart stores stock for about $4 a bottle, which lasts three to four months of daily shaving) is as good as any and better than most.

If you want to try shave-oil shaving to see if it works for you, you can use four or five drops of kitchen-pantry vegetable oil. Wash your face well, with hot water, and the rub the oil into your whiskers and onto your skin. Wet your razor, and shave, re-wetting your razor whenever it starts to stick.

I use both electric and blade shavers. The electric requires more time and is not as good so every few days I resort back to blades in the shower with just ordinary soap

used to be that way, but the new Remington I bought about 3 years ago has eliminated that. The people that say they get a lot better shave with other razors have probably not tried the Remington made in the last few years. The earlier ones I did not like either, but the one I have now gives a better shave than the Braun I had a few years ago, and costs about 1/3 a comparable Braun.

Current trend seems to be short beards. Kind of like 1 weeks growth. Just get a pair of hair clippers and don't worry about getting a clean, smooth shave.

Like many others I vote for the Norelco. I have used these for about 45 years or so and have never been unhappy. The purists will tell you that there's nothing as good as a blade and they are right. An electric razor is a compromise between speed and quality and your face does have to acclimate.

If you are a Sam's Club or Costco member there are usually good deals on them there.

I swap out the cutting heads every couple of years and I am pretty happy with mine. I never get the fancy ones with the super floating heads.

Hi, I have never been able to use an electric razor. It gives me a very sensitive rash. I use mostly multi blade safety razors. Last several days, up to 2 weeks or more. Very smooth and clean results. Ed Will Oliver BC

I?ve used electric razors since the 1950?s nerrelco and Remington. Both are good, but the Remington gives a much closer shave.About the same difference as a bush hog and a finish mower.
