My 9 month old McNab cattle/sheep dog has devolped a hot spot, one about size of a quarter doesn't seem to bother him, What type of treatment have you had the best results .Thanks

Figure out what is rubbing the spot. (make sure it is what you think it is, Mange is not a hot spot) if it is raw at all, see a vet. If it is not raw. try to find a way to keep it from that irritation. If that doesn't work, see the vet!!! Jim

You need to make sure the spot stays dry. No salve or other ointment. Biggest thing is to keep him from licking it. You can find some bitter spray at TSC.

My German Shorthaired Pointers used to develop these on occasion , usually an insect bite that they would worry until it became inflamed and sometimes infected .
I spent far too much money on ' Snake Oil ' at the vet's until I found a spray used for horses and cattle . It is called Centigen , though another brand much the same is Chloropel , both are Gentian Violet wound sprays made for cattle and horses . They repel insects , dress the wound , taste bitter so the dog won't lick it too much and are anti bacterial as well as drying . Marvelous stuff , a must for any active dog owner .
It does dye their hair purple though !
