Hello,

Old steps were 14 years old, and regular lumber. New steps
are pressure treated wood. Should last a little longer,

Looks very good Guido.
Gonna tear off my old front porch this fall that has been on there 40 years and replace it. It is black locust.
The new one will outlast me.

After arsenic was removed from treated lumber I'm lucky to get 12-15 years. Less time if it's in contact with the ground.

I think lumber yards are selling cheaper treated lumber.

Where can you buy the good stuff?

I get mine from a lumber company that supplies heavy constructon/marine timbers. Have ordered lumber up to 2.5 pcf retention and that makes a tremendous difference in life span---also remember on any steps or decking to place the sapwood up and treat any holes bored for bolt and cuts with a preservative

I've found the best pressure treated lumber comes from the local lumberyard. I built a 10'x10' patio several years ago with pressure treated 4"x4" and deck planks. The 4x4s are lying flat on the dirt. Planks screwed to the 4x4s. Absolutely NO indication of deterioration. The lumber I get is wet and gooey when I bring it home. A saw is difficult to get through it, but can be done.

I've also purchased pressure treated lumber from Menard's. That stuff is bone dry.

Good, heavy duty. I'm not sure, but from the picture, looks like a fastener missing on the front of the third step from bottom under the railing, don't want it to come loose.

Hello MOZARK,

That is an extra strap I put on the outside the the 4X4. The step is only cut for the inside of the 4X4,

Hello dpendzic,

I will put the final touches to the steps weather permitting. You can see all the fastening screws are a little sunk into the wood. I will fill in the holes left with some silicone, then one light coat of polyurethane for everything, then a coat of paint to match the rest of the wood,

that should finish it off good! If you can fill those knot holes and seal them that would help a lot to slow down any rot.
