That is a very old timeing lite. I had one in the mid 19500 s. Got it at Sears & Roebuck or maybe Western Auto.It worked ok for me.clint

Yup, one lead hoked to number 1 plug wire and other lead to #1 plug. They worked, but originally were not real bright. Now probably less bright as the gas inside the bulb ages. Totally useless on anything made in the last 25 to 30 years. LOL

The gas inside the bulb is most likely neon. It is an element. It does not age. Possibilities include leakage of other gases into the bulb that may contaminate it, leakage of gas to the outside that may deplete it, but if the seal is intact, it should work as well as it did when new. Not very bright but usable.

What does age is the insulation. Just like holding onto a bad plug wire. Ask me how I know.

I used to use one as spark checker on small engines. Don't anymore. nuff said.

Old timing light. I still have a couple in a drawer. The only use for one now is to check for spark at each plug.
