Security/game camera

Hi, any suggestion's regarding security or game camera's. Place in the country has had a few break and entry. Anyone with previous experience with these cameras and cost. Thanks, Murray

I have a few high end game cameras 600.00 you can buy 100.00 cams that will do what you want the only thing I would get is what is called black opps or stealth cam the I.R. does not emit a visible flash. if you get a cheap one they will see the flash and steal the camera so you don't see them , with the stealth or black flash it is in infer red and they can not see it but at nite it will be in black and white but you can see them also shutter speed is important you should be able to get a 3 shot burst in 1 sec.

I'm also needing advice. I have a farm that does not have electricity nor cell phone service in another state, but I have problems with trespassers and thieves. What do you recommend for a camera?

i use moultrie game cameras out in the woods for hunting, there's all different types and manufactures of game cameras, even ones you can use with your phone, for security at home i use a manufacture by the name of night owl cameras, they seem to work pretty good.

Check out a Conbrov mini cam.

I have five of them and they work better than I ever expected for such a small cheap camera. The only drawback that I have found is with the night vision. If they're is any light source around (porch light, dust to dawn etc) It will flicker between daylight and night vision when in Motion sensor is tripped at night.

Ihave game cameras with no-flash and night vision (brief red glow when taking a night picture)and they are Moultrie. Around 180 buckaroos. Good definition, good on batteries (about 3 months worth if using duracells) and get about 600 pictures a week.

My cameras stay outside year round, and being in MN, they see some weather. So far the cameras last about 3 years all told.

I am not a salesman for any brand, just telling you what my experiences are.

I run about 8 trail cams year around on my MN farm. I've tried various brands. Of the models I have that are currently still available, the Bushnell Essential E3 is by far the best camera. Great picture quality day and night. Batteries last almost a year on one set, even through winter. Almost no false triggers.

When running cams for security or in areas where they might be seen and stolen, one thing I think helps tremendously is to put the cam up high. People just don't tend to look up, they expect that trail cams will be down at eye level so that's where they look.

Also, remember that the goal is to find out who's doing it, not to necessarily get photos of them in the act. The best camera placement might be on the driveway to capture the license number of cars going in/out. In this case, the best cam position may be down at knee level and facing so it can catch the license plate of a car as it's going away.

Look at the battery requirements of whichever camera you choose . Some are very thrifty and give good results , others will eat up batteries like a Wombat scoffs carrots .

You won't be able to access any type of camera remotely by cell nor computer.
So a "standard" game cam where you have to pull the memory card to see what pics it took is about your only choice.

On topic, I think:
I have a "TASCO" trail camera that I have used to get pics of ground hogs or such around the yard. Now one of the C-cells has gone bad and leaked acid residue onto a metal contact strip in the battery compartment. What have people used to clean up dry cell battery chemical damage? Inquiring minds want to know; thanks for any help.

Bicarbonate of soda and hot water applied with a cotton bud . Rinse carefully after a few applications . Then if it is really bad some steel wool followed by Methylated spirits [ denatured alcohol , I think you call it ] .

I have had batteries made by EverReady leak in one of my Scoutcam trail cameras , I emailed them and sent them the camera , they guarantee their batteries against leakage , two months later I received a new camera .
