36v Li-Ion?

Friend has some 36v Dewalt tools and doesn't want to pay big bucks for a replacement battery. So will the Black and Decker replace a Dewalt battery?
Looking at the pics they look very similar.

Looks like it might fit, but don't know if the batteries will 'talk' to the tool correctly, as in telling when the battery charge is getting low.

I've read that the B&D 36v and 40v are interchangeable and, since B&D owns Dewalt, there is a high likelihood that the batteries are similar enough to interchange.

Worst case scenario is, the batteries won't fit and will have to be sent back for a refund.

Here's a video that talks a bit about the Dewalt batteries:

Found a site that was discussing this very thing. Someone pointed out that the Dewalt batteries have 5 slots where B&D and Craftsman batteries have 4 slots, and that makes the two incompatible.

I have 20 volt DeWalt drill motors and some 20 volt B & D yard tools, the batteries look the same on those but will not interchange.
I had hoped they would.

No they will not interchange.

Have heard that some Porter Cable (owned by dewalt) batteries will work in Dewalt. You will need to do some research for I have never tried them.

There are some batteries that will interchange by simply removing a tab of plastic that prevents you from engaging that particular battery on a different tool.

Your second link is not talking about 36v batteries. They are showing 20v
battery are different.

Might do as you say, order a cheap one and if it doesn't work, amazon will
take it back.

They sure look like they will work.

I think you have a great idea there, 120v. And when the battery fails, attach a cord and plug it
into outlet.

Would that be a combo drill, both corded and cordless?

I have a Dewalt wet-dry vac that can run on 120v, old 18 and the new 20 volt batteries.

I believe someday they will offer more tools that can operate on both 120 volt and batteries.

I googled portor cable and couldn't find any 36v batteries.

So far only been able to find a 36v black and decker battery.
