echo string trimmer

It's a echo GT 200 R . I know this is going to sound strange but I can't keep the first handle closest handle to the bump head. I tried to tighten it with impact. Tried to put a extra nut on the hold down bolts. Tried extra duct tape around shaft. Anybody have any ideas

Take the bolt out and the handle slid down a little. clean everything with brake clean or acetone. (careful with plastic melt) use a strip of thin sheet
metal (like 30 gauge) around the shaft for a shim. Use a new bolt with washers as needed to allow good wrench tightening. Jim

If you are talking about the loop handle in front of the throttle trigger. It should be held on by a 1/4-20 x 1 1/2" bolt and wing nut..

I have roughed the shaft up a little with some 80 or 90 grit sand paper, cleaned it good and then cut and placed course sheet rock sand paper under the handle with decent luck.

I have a GT200CE and it does the same as yours. Been doing the same for umpteen years. I tried everything. Finally gave up and now we do it with handle twisted 90 degrees. It works just fine for me. I just needed some training I guess. I made a shim of emery cloth once and thought this has to work, it did not.

Well guys I want to thank you for your replies. I went to True Value and bought some anti slip tape - " the kind you put on running boards" it was 0.99 a foot -Then I took starting fluid and washed the shaft real good roughed it up with 6o grit.Applied the tape used 6 in and put in a new bolt. It's 104 hi so I know the tape stuck! I used it and the handle didn't shift. Thanks dave
