Anybody fool around with chain saws?

Got a McCulloch Mac 100 series Eager Beaver, about 25 years old, ran a few minutes last week, died and won't restart. The carb. diaphragm and gasket are hard/distorted but I can't figure out the gas tank venting. The parts book shows a square piece of cork or felt maybe that goes over the filler and under the saw body and call it a vent but there's no hole in the tank, no gasket in gas cap either. Maybe they're counting the slight leak at gas cap as a vent and using the square piece of cork/felt to soak up the gas spill. Hooked vac. pump to the tank and it slowly goes back to zero., don't know what would be considered normal. Should toss it but might try a carb. kit.

Hello gab,

I don't remember what the filter venturi is for, but the tank is not vented. Make sure the future filter is not clogged. At 25 years old I would check the exhaust system too,

That's it, same junk as mine. That square piece fabric ? under your gas cap is what the parts book calls a vent only it goes on the tank under the plastic saw body. Exhaust is ok. Handy light weight saw, used to stand on roof peak and hold saw in right hand high as I could reach.

Hello gab,

I had that saw apart many moons ago, I don't remember why I put that breather there. Either I forgot it or it may have been too tick. I just started this year after 2 or 3 years. With a little gas I the carb it started right up. For $55 I would take a good look at the carb. If the rubber on the diaphrams is hard not much to do but replace them. there may be a kit out there on the interscreen,

Guido.

Hello gab,

I just did a quick search. Jacks small engines seems to have a carb kit for the 110. Not sure of the total cost the kit #615370 listed for $12.95,

Guido.
