Attaching a cable to a 4 steel post

I need to be able to attach a support cable to a 4? steel post. What I am looking for could be something that would work like a large hose clamp except stronger than hose clamps I'm familiar with. It needs to have a point of attachment, or allow for the attachment of something like an eye bolt. Other methods of securing it to the steel post, such as welding or drilling, are not options in this case. It has to be done by clamping. Thanks.

Not sure but a 4" muffler clamp may be available or all thread with the muffler bracket leaving the all thread long enough to create the attachment point with a double nutted bar across the all thread. Just an idea. gobble

I can think of a number of ways but all depends on how strong you want it etc. Muffler clamp, or simply wrap it around the post and used a cable clamp to hold it. Or a piece of pipe that fits over the post with a hole drilled in it for the cable. Or blow a hole in the upper part of the post and put the cable threw the hole

As mentioned, a muffler clamp is probably the easiest way to go--if you need an attachment point, exhaust hangers are available in many styles--I've linked one below, but a quick perusal of any auto parts store will give you many more ideas.

old; When I said it couldn't be drilled, maybe I should have said I can't put a hole in it. Good other suggestions, though. Thanks.

Years ago my dad found out one cannot drill holes in T post so he had me use my torch and blow holes at the top of a number of posts. I still have those post and use then on the fences I have. On some of my fence I welded piece of pipe to the top of posts so I could have 1/2 inch slick rod at the top of the fence. I have around 300 feet of T post with pipe tops and slick rod all along that 300 foot run

glad i could help. nice thing with those clamps, you can thread an eye bolt where the hangar goes and attach your cable.

Stan, they also sell what I will call saddle clamps for piping that passes thru holes in the floor on multi story buildings. usually 1/4 inch steel with the radius and holes to bolt the saddles together. just another option. gobble

... able to attach a support cable....

If I were attaching a support cable to a 4" steel post in a place where it would have to support a good amount of weight or something over my head.. I would look at something a little beefier than Grainger hangers made for electrical wiring or conduit.

I would be looking at something along the lines of swing set hangers for 4" metal pipe.

old; I didn't say the post couldn't be drilled. I said welding and drilling were not options. That means that even though those methods are physically possible, there are reasons that they can't be used in this situation.

I was just letting you know one cannot drill holes in them due the fact they are harden steel and most drill bits will only spin and not cut them
