What's best drain cleaner

What do you guys use to keep your drains clean? Kitchen sink & washing machine drain have worked for 30yrs & just plugged up.

i run a snake down and then use an enzyme drain opener that dissolves the soap and grease scum. roebic 67 is one of them. mix with water and pour in drains at night.

I've had good success with this, but depends on why it clogged.

This works well with grease. It's supposed to dissolve hair, but have found all it does is strip the grease and leaves really clean hair behind! LOL

I pour it in an empty sink (if it will drain down over time), don't be stingy with it. Let it sit over night, then hit it with a big pot of boiling water, followed with the plunger.
Instant Power

Instant Power. Red or yellow jug from WalMart. Used it on the tub drain that I couldn't get to.

This work for me.

I've never had a drain I couldn't clear with a snake or plunger unless it was broken/caved in and no amount of chemical will help that. Septic systems, cast iron and tile lines suffer from chemicals and lead to expensive repairs. You will be money ahead renting a power auger and doing it right. If you are uncomfortable operating the machine, hiring a plumber once in 30 years isn't going to bankrupt you.

I would snake it first and not use the chemicals at my own home since I have my own septic. but in my city rental houses I have used Clobber. You have to get it from a plumber as it can't be purchased over the counter. It really works good. It will also clear you out of the house. The vapors will about over come you.

Go to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Find the drain cleaner that's in a plastic bottle, with the bottle in a sealed plastic bag. That's the one you want. It will have sulfuric acid in it. Follow the directions!

If you have tree roots in the line the only things that will work are having it augered, or replacing it.

Like Steve said it depends on what is plugging it. for the kitchen drains you want CAUSTIC, like LYE or Dollar store OVEN CLEANER. A snake can take out the main clog but the grease that is left will catch enough garbage to plug it again in a week. Acid drain cleaner can be very hard on cast iron pipes if yours is an older system. For bathroom drains the problem is usually hair or some toy, so a snake is better there.

I use one of those 1/4" hand snakes from lowes. Its coiled in a small drum that is hand held with a crank on it. Hardly ever use the 1/2" x 50' snake. Maintenance man @ apt complex. Think I paid $25 two years ago, great investment.

I have a kitchen drain that I can not snake, too many 90s in it. I bought a drain cleaner that goes in the line with a garden hose,it swells and forces water to push the plug out. It works fine and I really did not expect it to work at all.

Kudos on the one that attaches to the garden hose.

I have a bit larger one that works great for 3" sewer lines... Works great and almost no mess at all. It actually seals the pipe and then pulses to break the clog loose.

Best of all about $20.00 at the plumbing supply.

Yep, I use my shop vac. Close all other drains with stopper etc then just suck the drain that is clogged. Run water then suck again. Careful no to over fill the shop vac.
