Window air conditioner question

We have a window air conditioner with a bad
thermostat. This unit is a commercial
heater-air conditioner like you see in a
motel room. On an internet search I found
out he thermostat is no longer available
from the company that made the switch. It
appears to be a three wire double
thermostat, one for heat, one for air, but
I don't need to use the heating unit so a
single thermostat is all I need. Can any of
you HVAC guys point me in the right
direction. The capillary tube and bulb are
about 8 inches long. I have an inkling it is a Whirlpool but without lugging the big thing out of it's shell half way up a wall to get to the tag I can't say for sure. The switch is upside down in the pic because it is upside down in the unit. The tag reads FSP 1155801 for the switch model number

Hello Fixerupper,

I would think an universal tstat will do just fine. I guess they are still available, been awhile since I bought one. wire it in the cooling side and eliminate the heat side circuit. Just make sure it is made for the type of refrigerant that is the unit,

Guido.

Thanks Guido. I ordered a generic two blade Tstat on fleabay. Judging by the pics the mounting screw holes appear to be spaced about right.

Very good, you should be up and running soon then.................Guido.

Just a few comments. Make sure the unused lead for heat is insulated and out of the way. Your new stat should be rated for 25amps. For future reference,a wall mounted spst line voltage cooling t-stat plus a 25amp spst relay could handle this as well. Even a heat pump wall unit can be controlled with a central air stat plus transformer and relay.
