Hello
It is a 5K BTU's unit and it seems to cool well. But the condenser side looks ugly.
Can this mess be cleaned up? I know the fix, and it is not leave well enough alone,

Guido.

They make a tool ( I think it is called a Fin Comb )to straighten those fins. They don't work to bad where the fins a just leaned over but the ones that a smashed flat might be best left alone.

Hello gmcool,

For $25 I took a chance. Ran it for a few minutes and it was down to 54* in the back of my truck bed,

Guido.

I know they make a tool to straighten the fins. I normally just use my pocket knife. You are not likely to damage the unit straightening the coil fins. Anything you can do to increase the air flow will help. That side of the unit is suppose to heat the coolant back up before going back to the compressor.

Hello bob,

But.......like the guy said: God give me patience but HURRY,!

Guido.

Hello Stephen Newell,

The condenser cools the hot refrigerant gas coming from the compressor and it then turns in to a hot high pressure liquid. That is the heat- high pressure side of the refrigeration-cycle,

Guido.

The way it should work is when the compressor compresses the coolant it releases it into the coil in the front making it cold and then goes to the coil on the back side to warm it before going back to the compressor.

o cupie doll, yet!

Hello RM MN,

It was 86* inside the garage a couple degrees cooler at the tail gate next to the garage door,

Guido.

Hello Stephen Newell,

Here is how it works, just study the picture. It shows the refrigeration cycle and stages and state of the refrigerant. By the way the compressor is a vapor pump,

Guido.

Yes as Gab pictured. Called a fin comb. Not that expensive on Ebay. Also sold at you local HVAC supply warehouse. REMEMBER you are working with very thin aluminum fins. Be verwy verwy careful. Give the coil a spray with a pretty thick mix of dish soap and water. Lets the comb slide along easily. Just be careful.

Hello jeffcat,

Camden County vo tech graduate of a 2 year course A/C refrigeration late 70's. Like I said: I know the answer! Stay tuned,

Guido

If the condenser is supposed to heat the Freon why does it have a fan blowing the heat out in the yard.

In any case it's the high pressure side that is outdoors being warmed before being converted to a gas to go through the low pressure side creating the cool. The side shown in the pictures needs the fins straightened out to provide better air flow for that purpose.

If the Freon isn't warmed it will get colder and colder with each cycle and eventually freeze up so it must be warmed. The fan blowing out in the yard is just creating air flow for that purpose.

Hello Stephen Newell,

Do a you tube search and check out a video of the refrigeration cycle. You will
better understand how it works. I complete a two year course on air conditioning and commercial refrigeration in the late 70's I did about ten years of residential A/C servicing......that is my background on the subject,

Guido.

Ok here is some more. You think THAT is a mess??? Take a look at this video with some hail. I don't think that going this fast is a good thing. Just be careful.
Hail damage.

What is really fun is doing Traulson refrigerator units in kitchens were they never had a prefilter on the condenser. Some of them we had to use a little low power electric pressure washer to blow them out. TONS of gelled grease. Here in the casino they get dust bunnys that were radioactive or something. They had to blow them out with a high pressure water hose in the back cortyard. They all have filters now.

I can't do video on my computer. The only mistake I made is I thought there was less space between the compressor and the orifice which converted the Freon to a gas. We are basically saying the same thing.

Hello jeffcat,

That's pretty fast. Bet your cats will love that comb too HE! HE!

Hello Stephen Newell,

I guess you just not seeing what I am been telling you.....later!

Guido.

It's not being warmed, it's hotter than hell already, the idea is to get the heat out, the absence of heat is cold.

Can't you even read your own diagram?
Don't know the meaning of the word cycle?
In a cycle the freon is heated and cooled, it expands and is compressed. There is no getting colder and colder...

Hello gab,

Forgot to mention your background in your first picture. I guess that is choice #2 if fix # 1 does not work? HE! HE!

Guido.
