Case 530, broken rockshaft housing casting

Hi guys,

Was all proud of myself after replacing the rockshaft piston seal and looked forward to playing with my 3ph, but had a mishap and cracked a corner off the casting, across two bolt holes and two smallish triangles of casting broke off.

I?ll investigate a brazing repair, which is a long shot.

These are obviously not made anymore. Anyone know of a stash of parts or someone parting out a 530? My serial number 8318483. The original part number was A37475, it was superseded by A38460, which appears to be compatible (they did not change any other parts at that time). I scoured eBay and the ?net in general but haven?t had any luck yet.

Well, if it was me, I would make sure that the alignment dowels were lined up properly before tightening the bolts. Then put in all the rest of the bolts, and then set the broken pieces in place and install flat washers over the other two bolts and tighten every thing down on them. I presume that you broke the top flange on one of the front corners. It should work OK, and the washer will hold the housing down properly.
There are at least two tractor salvage yards here in central NY that would have that housing if needed, If you feel that you need a housing give us a shout on the CASE forum and we will hook you up with several yards across the country.

Hi I would do what adirondack said but I would clean all the paint off the joints and where the washers go and put jb weld around them. That would keep it waterproof . It should work until you find a different casting. Ed Will Oliver BC

Obscure tractor parts are not likely to be inventoried on the internet. Sometimes they are but usually not. Lot of work to do the inventory, for something that may never sell.

Good to keep an eye out, just in case someone like Marty Prill parts one out on ebay, but if you need it sooner than "whenever," which may be months or years down the road, you need to start calling salvage yards and asking if they have a 530 on the lot that might have your part.

I'm surprised nobody has recommended Steel Wheel Ranch, if the part is shippable. A large part will need to be palleted and shipped via truck freight, which will probably far exceed the value of the part.

It would help knowing where you were so people could recommend used tractor parts dealers that may be within a few hours' driving distance to you.
