Weather Stations

I'm looking at buying a weather station and set it up for household use. Any recommendations?

The cheap stuff and the high dollar stuff are all made in China, so it's going to be difficult to determine what brand to trust. I'm sorry this doesn't offer much help.

We are getting more and more of them around here tied to "The Weather Underground" and posted on Intellicast for your viewing pleasure. I refer to them frequently as one is 2 miles up the road to the N, another to the W, and a 3rd SE. Don't need to worry about my rain gauge freezing and cracking any more.

If I wanted to join in, I would contact WU and ask the question.

Many people speak highly about the davis units. Personally I have an ambient weather station that I've had set up for about 2 yrs now. It doesn't like going down below 0 degrees for too long during the winter. I only payed around 100 bucks, so I haven't been able to complain about it.

I have an Accurite 1535S Seems to work well and accurate. Got it off Ebay as a refurbished unit. It was recommended by several Ham Radio operators I communicate with.

Ditto on try Weather Underground first before making a large investment. If they don't have any stations near you they might provide a station for you or help with expenses.

I bought an Ambient Weather station like this 4 years ago.

Bought the one without local display mainly for price, today I would probably get one with a local display. Getting it connected and reporting to WeatherUnderground was fairly painless and like the ability to go to the station web site and look at the history.

You can select weekly, monthly or yearly history and I usually select weekly to see how much rain we have had.

The station itself has been fairly trouble free. The type of battery used in the head is important especially if you are up north. Standard recharable AA's quit working when it gets really cold. Can't recall what batterys to use but the instructions tell you.

I just bought an Ambient weather 2weekks ago. Thought it was easy to set up and connect to WiFi. It is fun to check from a remote location. I can not speak about durability yet, but I like it

Haven't had any issues with mine after 4 years, one would think 40 - 50 MPH Oklahoma winds would uncover any design flaws.

Have had a Davis Vantage Pro 2 for better than 10 years. Great product. Bought the wireless sensor suite-no cables to run. Couldn't be happier.

I'm thinking it's a partnership thing. They are getting more popular as I now have about 5 within 5 mile radius. Good to have as this time of the year we get the fronts through here with spotty thunderstorms. To get an accurate rainfall accounting, I check several especially those I feel were in the path of what I got for rain.
