Noisy refrigerator

Our 25 yr old Kenmore frost-free refrigerator has started making more noise in the recent past. It's not quite a grinding sound, but it's not an amount of noise you'd want to ignore either. It seems to be coming from the back of the freezer compartment which is on top. I know it's quite easy to get to the fan in that location, so I've got no problem taking a look at it. Is this likely to be something I could fix easily? We're due for a new refrigerator so the main problem with this is that I'm one month past rotator cuff surgery, which makes it not the most convenient time for me to be dealing with having to move major kitchen appliances.

One like that could well be the fan or in the fan area. All it takes is a bit of ice in the wrong spot to make a lot of noise

probaly fan in rear of freezer compartment, we had one doing that and thats what it was.squirt a drop of oil on shaft should quit.

Gonna guess one of the defrost coils is bad, or its not defrosting long enough to get all the ice out, or a piece of foam came loose and is binding on the fan blade. Could be a worn out fan motor also. All easy to fix if compressor is good, worth the effort.

Yep, the circulator fan.

Could be hitting some ice, insulation.

Could be the motor bushings worn and rattling.

Had one that the fan migrated down the shaft and was hitting the motor, just pulled it back where it belonged and super glued it.

I had an old Maytag with double doors and the freezer at the bottom. Top quit cooling, freezer ok. Problem was a fan down in the freezer that was to bring air up to cool the ref section quit. Simple fix.

Periodically I'd pull it out from the wall and with the combination of compressed air and a vacuum cleaner I'd clean the lint out of the condenser coils.

I bought a new one when the fan quit and kept the other for a catch all when needed. Was time anyway as the ice maker was overdue for a new one. I read replies from purchasers in determining which I was to buy between two types. One of the replies which almost caused me to make the wrong purchase, said "sometimes the refrigerator just makes noise"!

Some people are just eat up with the DA! When you make ice it makes noise! And when defrosting it makes noise! When cooling it makes noise!. Very happy with my "noisy" purchase.

When we were first married and bought a new Kenmore refrigerator for our remodeled house, it developed a new, odd noise and warmed up. Called for a service call- he found a styrofoam packing peanut wedged in the fan in the back. Boy, did I feel dumb!

Sure, take it apart and take a look, you may find it just that easy to fix.

I bought mine from Lowe's because they had what I wanted at the right price and their delivery folks are LOWE'S EMPLOYEES, not contract jobbers......it matters.....these are strangers coming into your home........what do they do besides deliver appliances?????????

I kept my old ref. but they will pick it up for you for $20. You couldn't take it to the dump for that.
