More nut splitters

Bought these nut splitters when I was middle school you unscrew the handle and remove the chisel and there's a knurled piece you can put in and use to remove a stuck nut

I could sure use one of those for about 5 minutes to get a nut off a tie rod end. I don't want to ruin the threads with the torch because I want to put a washer and a new nut on it. I suppose that's something I really should add to my arsenal.

i have slit those nuts with an air chizel. some times even with a cold chizel and hammer.

If there's room I will use a cut-off wheel in the angle grinder and cut most of the way through the nut, stopping before I get into the threads. Then I can usually put a small cold chisel in the slit and give it a few whacks with a hammer and break the rest of the way through the nut. Often there isn't room, and that's when I wish I had one of those splitters. I bought one at Harbor Freight around 15 years ago but the first time I tried to use it the chisel tip just mushed out of shape, it must have just been mild steel. I like HF cut off wheels, though.

It was interesting to watch, we had just taken possession of our current yard site.

3 large hopper bottom bins that were not part of our deal were scheduled to be moved out.

Guy showed up to remove the anchors so the bin movers could just load and go the next day.

With badly corroded nuts on 3/4 inch bolts anchoring down the hoppers I figured he would be swearing at them all day so I offered to bring my cutting torch down from the shop.

He told me not to bother and pulled out a cordless drill.
In no time he drilled a couple of 1/8 holes in the nuts then gave them a wack with a hammer and chisel.
He was right in less time than it would have taken me to drag out the torch he had the bases free and ready to go.
