Another Engine-I finally found the pictures.

This engine was also restored by my son. Turned out nice like the Stover.

I have a LA engine and was wondering if the only difference between the LA and the LB is the horse power and maybe the size. Just wondering.

Very nice. I also have one. It runs, but there is something haywire with the throttle system. Last run it was smooth as silk, but way high in RPM's. Threw the crank handle through the soffit in my shop and put a serious dent in a truss. Seconds before I was standing over the thing turning off the fuel knob. Amazing that it bent the handle pin 90 degrees. Do you have a decent internal diagram that shows the throttle system. I only have a poor repro. Thanks

they are the same engine. LA was first model in the 1930's then the LB came out in the 1940's. both models have the 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 h.p. models including the 3-5 h.p. models. the LB models had small improvements as with any newer model. for example the LB had a felt wick for oiling the valve guides. LA you had to oil manually.

appears like you dont have the governor to carb connection together properly. its kinda like the deal with the carbs on the tractors. i remember when i was young and got one going after having it apart. the flywheel flew off due to over reving and went rolling right across the yard.

In 1943, dad had one running the DeLaval milker vacuum pump. My 120lb mother was not afraid to start it or the JD E on the well pump jack. I have those darned engines and their sound burned into my childhood brain, I think! She couldn't leave me alone in the house when I was 2years old, could she? So I got up close and I suppose scared daily. lol Leo[/i]

We used to have a sa-5hp, but I do not know if it was an LA or LB. We used it for spraying brush, and Dad always told me that when slowing it down I should move the throttle leve slowly, or it would come disconnected.
