My wife brought me home a gas powered string trimmer back in 1985. I was using an electric string trimmer until then with a 100' cord.

I has lasted through 5 moves to several states and I just yesterday trimmed the yard with it in the house we retired in.

It's a MAC 60-A It's 35-36 years old and still running strong. I have not babied it either.

I feel better now, still have the one my wife bought me in 1988, a Homelite from Farm/Fleet. Went to get a carb. kit for it 10 or 15 years ago and the guy told me they were junk brand new, update your equipment but I'm still running it.

I had both a Poulan weed eater, and a Stihl. Both were trouble from the very start. I gave them away and bought a Black and Decker cordless electric. It has lasted more years with NO trouble than either of the gas powered trimmers.

I bought a Blacker & Decker cord less 20 volt. Got home and removed it from package, it seemed awful light and chintzy. Tried it out and really like it.
I've used it for one season.

Got the same thing last year, and the little caddy that it snaps into that has four wheels. Looks like some 5-year-old's toy lawn mower, but it chews up weeds like nobody's business, get about 15 minutes hard work out of one battery (I have two). My back won't take swinging a gas trimmer anymore.

My shoulder is too far gone for gas engines. Bought A Ryobi 40 volt 2 years ago and just wish they gad them 30 years ago. 2 batteries outlast my shoulder.

That's why I like the little 4-wheel caddy for my B&D. It's about like pushing a lightweight vacuum or electric broom.
