Only because I used it today. :)

I will let you guess what it is. First time I saw one it took me a while to figure it out.

Well I was hoping some one would post that it is but no dice so far. LOL So I will just asked what is it????

Use for sampling grain in storage in a bin or pile. Jam it the desired depth into the grain without any backwards movement and the cup remains closed and empty.

As soon as you begin to withdraw it, the cup opens, filling with a sample of grain from that depth, allowing you to withdraw the sample for testing.

Elevators used to give 'em out as Christmas gifts.

Thank you Bob. With your explanation I can understand how it works. I have never seen one around here. The most common ones here are the rotary open ones. They have a limited depth. It looks like the type pictures would work as deep as you could push the probe cup.

Apparently I stumped all but one. I'm surprised but then when I first saw one I could not figure it out until the guy told me. I was up on the combine looking at something yesterday and looked over and realized there was a lot more corn in the truck than I remembered and it has been in there since December 2. Took a few samples from the center to make sure it was still cold and dry in there. It was. I figure I have another month and then it better be gone. :)
