Millermatic still driving me crazy!

Millermatic 210 MIG --no movement of drive rollers at all . take covers off machine and inspect -starts to work -then stops again. Can't tell if small drive motor is turning.

I got a older Millermatic 185, the wire speed stayed the same no matter where in the range I normally run it at. So I turned the wire speed up as high as it can go just to see what it would do, it started slow then it sped up. Now when I adjust the wire speed where I normally use it, it actually changes the wire speed like it's supposed to.

I had trouble with the wire speed jumping and stopping on my junk Century. It would weld for a minute and go nuts. Thought it had to be potentiometer although I thought it looked good with my ohm meter, had the sheet metal off all summer and kept screwing with it, finally got out the magnifying glass and found a couple loose solder joints where the circuit board is soldered to the pot. Works now.

Not familiar with the 210 but my 250 has a reset button right above the drive motor, but more than likely would be the drive motor brushes. My 250 has external brush access. Brushes may be dirty and not moving freely in holders.

Check your the control plug on your gun and the opposite plug on the welder. Mine will act up when the pins get corroded at that joint. When your drive rolls will not run wiggle the plug and see if they start to run.

Put a meter on the dc motor to see if a voltage is present. If voltage is there tap a little on the drive motor with the head of a screwdriver to see if that will allow the brushes to reseat.

I bought a millermatic 185 brand new
back in 1997/1998ish, other than 2
liners and end of gun consumables
never a moment's problem. I had a junk
century before that, and (I think) an
astro before that, now you want to
talk POS, those machines were.
