Chain saw woes final update

This is in reference to my earlier post about the Husqvarna 359 that would idle high then die. This will be the last update I promise...First, thanks to all that replied to prior posts. It ended up not being an air leak. It was a bad carb, evidently the original WALBRO carb has an accelerator pump within it that tends to go bad. The parts are not available to replace the pump so the whole carb has to be replaced. You can tell if your carb has this pump by the little brass plug on the end of the carb. I replaced with the recommended Zama carb and straight out of the box it ran great. Just thought you husky guys might like to know.

Thanks Dan

Thanks for the update. It's kind of strange that these days you can buy a new carb for a few bucks more than a kit for a lot of them. Life made more sense back in the day.

Billy...not all walbro carbs have these little pump things, matter of fact the new carb doesn?t even have one. They must have been able to engineer it out somehow.

IIRC the "accelerator pump" idea was designed in an effort to comply with clean air mandates in Calif. or some such other crazy place. Normally you'd have your low speed jet opened enough to give the fuel needed to rev up, but at the cost of a bit of a rich condition when idling. Seems like an answer in search of a problem to me.
