We used to use one to scrape the fat off a freshly skinned beaver pelt. We had a bench to hold the hide over and scrape a section at a time.

I have one just like it. Tried to use it once, but it was dull. Tried to sharpen it, but didn't have enough patience.

Got one Larry ! Draw knife. Great tool. Have used mine for fleshing animal hides too like sms. Also does a nice job on wood with some patience !
