I'm sure many of you have one of these. I have two.

Yep I've got one to. A man gave me mine. I always wanted to know something about it. How old are they and what were they used for? Anything in particular just an old vise? They are cool looking and well made. Thanks.

The post vise--My Grandpa on my Moms side worked at a hardware store/plumbing place in town an when they closed the doors and had a sale I was able to buy the vise they had in their shop out back. This is the one I use now. My Dad had his Dads vise which was the next size smaller for years and I bought it on Mom's sale when Dad died and the threads finally wore off so I use the other Grandpas now. So I have both my Grandpa's vises!---Tee

I have 3 post vise's. I actually broke my nicest one trying to use it with a belt lacer. I learned they just aren't meant for that.

We had one, on a seldom-used workbench in the basement of the house. Must have been moved there after extreme use somewhere else, as it was well worn, and would not hold tight anymore. When I remodeled, the workbench and vice went out, still have the bench in the shop, but the vice went to scrap. I realize now it probably still had some value, somebody probably picked it from the pile.

Yep, got one in the barn. Need to dig it out and set up in my shop or let my son have it for his shop.

Leg vise as I call it. I have had a large one as my only shop vise for all of 45 years I would guess. The handle is nice and shiny from nearly every day use. My neighbor friend calls the long handle the ‘nut cracker’ for a good reason. LOL It isn’t much good for clamping pipe. The jaws aren’t parallel when it is open and the pipe goes shooting up in the air when it jumps free of the jaws but all in all it’s a good reliable tool.
