3/8 socket set

I need to get a 3/8 socket set to carry in my truck for work. I have plenty of 3/8 sockets, ratchets, extensions ,and other stuff in my box at home. I need this for work, and something I can carry in my truck with me. What I am looking for is a 3/8 set, deep and shallow sockets, standard and metric in a blow molded case. All my sockets in my garage box are on rails and that gets to be a pain when working on something in the field. Recommendations ?

There are a lot of brand name sets just like that on Amazon. Below is just one example. Lots to choose from.

Here's a HF one for under $40 that looks like it matches. Have had good luck with most of HF's Pittsburgh stuff for what I paid, though the ratchet is usually the first to go in my experience. Can probably fit a decent one in the same spot in the case if necessary.

I would recommend GP sockets. Very good quality and reasonable price with a lifetime warranty and variety of sets to fit your needs. I get mine off the Mac tool truck there's many places that sell them but warranty is easier with the tool truck. I've only broke one 3/8 swivel and a 3/8 drive 6 in long allen in the last 4 years of having nothing but GP sockets in my tool box and I'm a mechanic by trade.

Here is a 170 piece Crescent tool set that I have in several of my trucks. It has 1/4,3/8 and 1/2 sockets in SAE and metric. A few wrenches and common tools. They all snap into the case so they do not bounce around. I bought this set at Menard's for around $100. The tools do have a life time warranty. I had a spring break in the 3/8 ratchet and they replaced it.

A nice feature is the deep well sockets are six point and the 1/4 drive ones are six point too.

Whatever you decide to get, take the time to check that all the sizes are there.

For whatever reason (to save a dollar I suppose), the plastic case tool sets are bad about skipping sizes, especially with the end wrenches.

Set looks nice. I carry wrenches, pliers and stuff in two different boxes I have, but that would be a nice set to add ! Do you need adapters to use some of the sockets ? I am guessing so. Like if you wanted to use a 3/4 socket on the 3/8 ratchet ? Just wondering ! Definitely worth looking into.

That's about what I was after ! Too bad it doesn't have deep metric sockets too ! Thanks !

I got just what you need in Craftsman from Menard's a year ago. In a nice container. I bought 1 for each grandson too. We have used the heck out of them.

No problem--for another $13 you can pick up a set of deep-well 3/8" metric impact sockets. Don't look to be in a case, but if you've only got to handle one rail (and I agree--rails in a truck kit can be a pain) it might not be that bad. Only a couple bucks to pick up a cheapie plastic "organizer" case for them if needed--the Plano or similar ones meant for fishing tackle are VERY handy for such things--I've got a bunch of them I've filled with stuff like electrical butt connectors and common fastener assortments ready so I can just grab the case and go.

Here is the actual sets I have The cases are a little better. The Red plastic latches are actually hinged. The sets have been a good buy for a carry along set. Watch the numbers closely as they have a different setup and cheaper latches. The first one I pictures is a gray case and the cheaper latches. They are currently on sale at Amazon for $109.98.

The set number is: Crescent CTK170MP

I have basically the same set. Mine has a pair of wire cutters instead of the Crescent wrench.

The set of tools that JD Seller listed below are good. I have a set in every car and truck and one behind the seat of the combine. They are real handy. And if you break a piece you get it replaced. If you loose a socket You won't cry over the cost. Ben very happy with mine since I can leave my snap on tools in the shop

Don't know if you have one nearby, but Menard's has a set that looks like it would serve your needs in their weekly ad that came out today. Crescent brand, $59.99 with a $10 mail in rebate.

Personally, I've had pretty good luck with the Crescent brand wrenches and sockets for farm use. Menard's will warranty them, too.
