Well, it is sort of a tool. It is 15" in diameter, and 3-1/2" deep.

product it held was yellow in color, mild to very sharp in taste and typically used a wire to cut in to usable sizes.

If anyone is interested in how stuff like that was made back in the day Google Frye Measure Mill in Wilton NH. I toured the place a few yrs. ago it was real interesting to see the old machinery still in operation.

You would also like the Bowl Mill in VT. The last I knew they were still using all the old machines also. They could make a bunch of different size bowls from one slab of wood.
Bowl Mill

Yup ,something that would be used for something else or thrown into the stores wood stove on a cold day. More than likely it could have been just plain old farmers cheese. Back in the late 60s in the little town of Califon, NJ there was a peach basket factory with Steam powered everything. I just wish I had looked around more the time I was there. What ya think.
