bought at an antique street fair in Slidell, La. in the 80's. supposedly used on the New Orleans street cars in the early days.

had one of them when i worked at a texaco gas station many years ago, great for making change!!!

It looks like the kind of change maker that you wear on a belt around your waist. They were used by virtually everyone who had to make change on the street (back in the day).

I remember when Jethro wanted to either be a brain surgeon or a street car conductor so he could wear one of them nickel squirters on his belt.

I wore one for a couple years working at an Esso station. Changed to Exxon while I was there. I kept a couple of the Esso signs and made a light box out of one.

Bit unusual to see a five slot. I would guess the last is for 50 cent but it looks a tiny bit small. Maybe not. My guess would be 25, 10, 1, 5, 1. Some of you guys make a guess. Could also be a special purchase and one tube would be a token dispenser. The NYC Tokens when I was a kid were the size of a dime.

In the late 60's I seen waiters in Pubs had these machines on their belts for making Change........ beer was $00.10 per Glass in 1969....$00.15 / Glass in 1970

Wages for non skilled labourer was $2.10 / hour:

I was working (1969-1970) in a Sawmill in Northwestern British Columbia Canada, Town of Chetwynd:

I soon realised, with Post Secondary Education one could procure a career and abandoned the Sawmills Job:

dang things won't work today... they would have to TELL the operator how much change to give and how many quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies to give you...or have a hanger for a calculator

I delivered pizzas while in college. Made making change very easy. But then I was up on my math and could mentally calculate easily.

Pete,

Jethro was really good with gazentas too. (You know... four gazenta twelve three times, two gazenta ten five times, etc.)
