nothing unusual, just has some age.

I have a couple of the 4 fold rules and several of the accordion style folders. For some things they still work better than a tape for me.

AS an electrician, I ,almost, always used a wood folding ruler. When the usual carpenter asked why? I replied, they(wood) don't conduct electricity. Every tool has it's place. joe

Also an electrician here, We always carried a 6' folding inside reading reading ruler. They are a little harder to find and cost a little more.
Also you can often measure something that you can't reach.

I prefer the folding wood rule over steel tape rules. However I had to look up what a inside reading rule was. I think it is a better rule. Now thanks to y'all I have to have one.

Your 'carpenter' had never gone through an apprenticeship. Of course, as 'anti-union' as most here are, this is not a surprise.
