Snow plow question

Question would a table spoon or two of antifreeze put into an older western cable pump unit hurt anything ,or how about a little gas line antifreeze?

i would be concerned it may do some damage. iirc the system uses dextron/mercon trans fluid. if you have a water problem, get it warmed up and drain the fluid and refill.

Neither one should be put into hydraulics. New hydraulic fluid Maybe JD low viscosity would work well. The two you mention would either not mix and make some kind of Moose like cream, or destroy the seals. What is wrong with it? Jim

I've changed the fluid 2 times and going on third time ,the screen keeps getting plugged with ice cakes can't figure out how water is getting in? used it today and after about 2 minutes the screen is plugged again .the only thing I haven't done is purged both angle rams and the lift ram completely ,do I have to get every last drop of old fluid out?

ran them for 45 years [3 trucks] first change oil every year pull the motor off top pull pump and clean screen clean bottom of oil chamber put back together fill with oil and add 1/4 cup gas line antifreeze [heat] NEVER had a freeze up [use silicone sealer when replacing pump motor they have a poor fit [two bolts hold the pump down looks like 4 but two hold the pump together and two hold it in place the two long hold it in place and don't loose the the O ring under the pump . 45 minn job

in reality yes. Hytran and JD low viscosity Hyguard can and do absorb water. taking it all out and heating it to 150 degrees will drive water out. Do this outside and in a double boiler to prevent fire!! Jim
