2001 Ford F-250 Catalytic Converter

Trying to find a cheap catalytic converter for a friend of mines 2001 Ford f-250. He doesn't have much money and trying to find cheapest one. Has anyone used one of the universal converter ? Are they had to adapt ? Thanks

Never installed one on a F-250, but installed one on a Buick LeSabre. It went pretty good. Been quite a while ago so I don't remember all the "nitty gritty" details. What did make it easier was that everything from the front attachment of the catalytic converter all the way back needed replacement, so most of what was involved was new, rather than trying to install it between two existing sets of pipes. I think I had a friend of mine have to do some work with a wire feed welder on the attachment up front, though.

Check with an independent muffler shop.

They can usually get them bulk discount, and install for about the same price as buying one and DIY.

Laying under a truck, dripping weld slag in my face... Not fun!

A universal converter needs to be sized for the application if not you are looking for trouble. Are its not a one size fit's all deal...

Depends on if you have yearly vehicle inspection. 2001, next major repair may put it the salvage yard with a new cat. Something to think about. gobble
