Second tool of the day

Two tools in one day....is that allowed?

I've had this for years...on one side it says THE H D SMITH & CO MADE IN PLANTSVILLE CONN USA
on the other side: PERFECT HANDLE PATENTED
It is 12-1/2" long.
I have my own guess as to what it was for (or used for) based on the fact that
it is slightly bent and has some slight dent damage about 3-1/2" from the tip.
But truthfully, I don't know for sure what it was really made for.
It is very well made with inlaid rosewood handle.

It might work as a pickle fork but I think it probably goes back to the 30s or 40s...long before ball joints.

Have you ever tried to google the company name and see what comes up. If there is information some of that might be what kind of stuff they made.

Well, I did a little research and came up with the same thing Steve did.
Its older than I thought and its missing all the real important pieces. Complicated gizmo!

I think the way this one's bent it may have been inappropriately used in
attempting to pull valve guides in a flathead Ford V-8.

Its a conversation starter. You hang it in a prominent place on your shop wall- anyone who sees it will ask what it is, and presto, you've started a conversation.
