drill settings

Just got a new Hammer drill. It has 3 settings, hammer, drive, and drill. I know what hammer is and of course I know that drill is. What is the difference in drill and drive? In the past I have used my drills to drive screws and other fasteners. It works fine. Instructions say to use drive setting for screws and bolts.

On my cordless DeWalt, the driver position lets you dial in the amount of torque you want, or need, without twisting off the head, or driving the fastener plumb through the material. HTH.

As the other poster mentioned, usually the DRILL setting gives maximum torque and doesn't use the slip clutch.

There are buttons on the side that changes directions from forward to reverse.
It has a center lock. Why would you need lock the chuck? To loosen the set screw to remove it?
To lock the chuck while tightening the bit? I have no trouble tightening a bit with the chuck free wheeling.

My old drill doesn't have any selection but you can set the torque so you don't twist off a bolt or screw you are driving' I always set the torque kinda low when drilling because sometime when drilling the bit will catch/bite in just before going all the way through. The low torque keeps the drill from twisting. I don't see why a drill and drive setting

The drive runs at a slower speed and is intended to use to drive screws. The drill setting is faster for drilling holes.
