Sump pump back-up options ??

Situation:
Our house has a semi-finished basement. I would pay $1000 to have it NOT flood.
A heavy rain puts a lot of water into the foundation drains. I've tested the drains and found no short-circuit water flows.
Pretty well convinced it's surface water into the sump - not roof water.

I have a second pump installed a few inches above the lower one, so that if/when the lower pump fails the upper one will take over.
But ........... suppose power is off for a few hours, and the monsoon continues, and fills the sump, and starts to flood the basement.
I have a 25KW PTO generator that could be brought into play. If it were COLD and we needed the furnace, that would be the plan.
But if not, the rest of the house could stay dark for a day. Running the 25KW for a 6 amp sump pump load just doesn't "seem right".

So, one option would be a 2000 watt inverter/generator to run just the sump pump.

Or, an auto inverter hooked to my truck to power the sump pump.

I'm listening - tell me what I ought to do............

and Thanks

They do make battery operated back up sump pumps.

My house had just enough fall to run a tile down to the ditch and it will now by-pass the sump pump. All it took was a trip down the yard with a backhoe and some tile.

Very simple to do. Did one of my friends homes years ago. Right next to the regular sump punp make a little platform on cement blocks. This is so you have q platform for a battery. Next take a trip to your local Marine supply house and buy a 12 volt bilge pump for a boat. Next pick up a good deep cycle 12 volt battery. You want a good Schumacher battery maintainer. Hook everything up and have the bilge pump so it turns on and off just a little higher than the operation of the big sump pump. Hook everything up, unplug the 120 volt pump and start pouring water into the french drain. Your new 12 volt pump should kick in and pump down to just above the 120 volt pump. Make sure you set them up so they run one after the other. Plug the 120 pump back in and smile.

Yup this is pretty close to what I did. Mine cost about 1/2 as much though. We just keep reinventing the wheel. As long as it works is all that counts.

The real solution is gravity drain. Saying that you think groundwater is leaking in implies that it is migrating down a slope. If that is the case, you need a trip down the slope with a hoe.

BILDGE PUMPS 12volt coupled with 12 volt battery and solar genny inside a window.

Works for me, while I am away for vacations during the last 12 years.

Rig up a comode float ball on a brass rod to turn on/off the BILDGE PUMP.

Check with a boater while his yaght is tied up for a winter.

JCarroll, how long have you owned the home. Since you are confident that your drains are working, it sounds like they could be silted in just below ground level and may need some dirt replaced with sand/stone
