WC has to go

We bought a house in town, and we're having it fixed up to move into. It was built in 1968, and we bought it from the original owner-occupants. They took good care of
the house, but didn't upgrade to speak of. The commodes are going to be replaced-they are too low. We thought we could save some money by buying fixtures online. My
plumber suggested Western Pottery comfort-height dual-flow, but I can't find that anywhere besides their company store, where they won't sell to homeowners. I'll
probably just try to find an American Standard that has the right height, but Comfort Height seems to mean different heights to different companies. Anybody have a way
to help me through the confusion?

Hello woodbutcher,

If you want a comfort toilet, look at Kohler.com. The height is about 28". You can also buy a medical seating 4 or 5" that fits a standard or elongated toilet

Guido.

Like Guido suggest go with the Kohler. I made a mistake and only replaced the one down stairs because we seldom use the upper one, I went up there a couple of weeks ago and almost fell over backwards. I researched a lot and the Kohler was the tallest I found also.

Something that I've done in the past was to simply raise the existing toilet up on a platform. You can buy extensions for the drain to raise it up higher. Just make sure to build the platform to match the extension and all will be well.

Dad had a floor rot out in a mobile home when I was a kid and he built a large platform, large enough for the user to be on while doing their business. However, the same principle applies with a small-footprint platform. At the very least, this could buy you time to shop around and find just the right toilet you like, or wait until you're ready to tackle the entire bathroom.

I believe federal requirement for handicap in public restrooms is 17 to 19 inch seat height. I prefer the American Standard plus 4 system as they have a 4 inch flush valve and also the largest thru passage of any made, makes it about impossible to plug

check out Toto products. Beware of off brands, you may not be able to find parts when needed. A/S used to make a lot of noise of noise when flushed. Kohler is over priced in my opinion. Retired LMP..things may have changed.

I suppose you're right, Case guy. My heart's not in this task. When I look at all the choices and the difference in prices, it confuses me.

Me Too ! I was going to wish him luck as that's the only tractor I had that I had to loose money on to sell it.

Cheaper is probably best, as the design has been well developed over the years. The pipe connected to the toilet and out to the street is far more important.
Just how much time do you expect to spend sitting on your new throne where total comfort is that important. You can spend extra for a nice cushie heated self closing seat and lid though. Wink.

Is this the model you want?
