I posted a few weeks back about ideas for a heavy duty engine stand.
Here's what I've come up with. It's built very similar to the factory built 6000 lb stands.
The worm gear is off an old winch. It's 30:1. Not sure if it will be enough or not. If not, I'll do a chain/sprocket reduction on the input. If it works ok, I'll just replace pulley with a crank.
The width is kind of overkill, but I wanted it wide enough to get my engine hoist between the legs. The legs have wheels out on the ends and I put a plate on the back end to accommodate a floor jack. Jack it up an inch and roll it around. The feet on back end are big enough for my forks to slip in and pick it up.
I still have to fab up the actual motor mounts. I will build one similar to what's on the small stand for smaller car and truck engines. I have a john deere engine here waiting that will need a side mount bracket built.
The only things I had to buy were the long ram jack and a couple feet of tube for the upright, so I'm into it for less than $100.
