Home weather station

I have a Davis Vantage Pro 2 that has been going strong for about 12 years. I would highly recommend The Davis brand.

I also have a Davis Vantage Pro 2. 10 years old and still works fine. Spend the extra cash for the wireless unit. It's money well spent.

You could make this weather station
Check out the units on wunderground.com the davis unit is one of them

As others have said, get a Davis Vantage VUE or the pro series if you want to link it to such things as an irrigation system. There is tons of info at your fingertips. First pic is in Wind Mode, second in Temp just as examples. Two of my neighbors have just monitors in their house and my wireless transmitter broadcasts to them also. You can hook it to your computer and print out graphs from just one day to an entire year, of the mode you select to print off. I have to replace the battery in the transmitter about once a year, but it messages you when bat is getting low.
Mount the transmitter high on a pole and somewhere that is not affected by building and trees.

I don't know anything about those $500.00 jobs, but SWMBO got me a wireless station at Wally World a few years back. A little over $100.00 IIRC. It stopped working within 18 months. Tech support said I needed a new $60.00 transmitter.

I don't have a weather station anymore...

Yes, a Davis Vantage is the Cadillac of home weather stations. Mine worked fine for many years until the Amish neighbors decided one hot wire would hold his Holstein steers. They went right through it brought down my mast and trampled the station. Request for reimbursement got a blank stare.

I now have an Acurite 5 in 1 and while certainly not on par with the Davis is an adequate system

I have an ambient weather: wireless weather station. Have had it about 2 yrs. It has worked pretty well. If I had the money I would buy a davis as they are the cadillac of weather stations.

I went and looked at the manual I still have. Mine was a Lacrosse. Pretty much junk from the get go.

If you want one to last for 10 years or so... and or you want one to be able to talk to your computer so you can become a " on line, official weather reporting station via your internet connection... Then get the Davis Vantage Pro2... I have one, and it reports via Heavy Weather software to various official weather sites.

I also have an assortment of La Crosse, and other weather stations scattered around the house and they are fine,, as long as your replace the batteries often, and dont need and external connection. I pick up the cheapies in garage sales and give them aways as my wife wont let me install any more in the house, as every room has a weather station now. The cheapies work, but require a lot of cleaning, fixing, changing batteries. the outdoor transmitter units MUST be under a porch or they will die off in about a year to two.

The Davis is professional grade, Highly calibrated, and recognized as being a professional grade system. The outside unit it out sits on a fence post, has a solar panel on it, and requires a battery change about every three years to keep working well during cloudy days. The only problem I have had, is that the rain collector will occasionally clog up with bird poop and need to be cleaned. I fixed that problem by mounting tiewraps with tails on the pipe just above the bowl, to block birds from roosting on the collector.

Smartphone and Siri will tell you instantly anything you want to know. I am in bed under the covers and ask her "What is the temperature" If she say "BRRRR it cold" 10 degrees or less I get another hour of sleep. LOL

We have an Accurite station for about 2 years. We had 40 mph wind last week and it was awesome to know just what 40 feels like. Walking was possible if leaning forward. My collies were pushed around too.
Happy shopping!

Cool!
I inherited a large redneck weather station with a "rock" sensor!
The rock actually was blown off the station, prompting the forecast os "hurricane!"
I also mounted my accurite station topside.
