Electric Motor for a Dryer Bin

Will one of those sealed electric motors survive being on a sweep auger left in the bin? I think they are called a "washdown"
motor.

I would think it would. Wash down may be a little overkill unless it actually gets washed.

The designation TEFC in the description stands for "totally enclosed fan cooled". That means just what is says, no openings in the case for dust to get in. They are not water proof, none really are, but it will run in dirty, dusty conditions and stay clean inside.

Unless this is an extreme dust, fire potential, then it may be an explosion proof motor. That gets expensive, but if that is what is needed, don't take the short cut.

Thank all of you for the replies, I'm trying to make it easier for the renter as that bin is the only one on the farm that can dry down corn. Some years it will dry 5 or 6 fillings and the old homemade sweep takes two to carry it in. Just hoping to cut back on the scoop shovel effort for him.
