J.C. Higgins hammer whatizit?

Was told it is a chipping hammer?, but I can't find any like it on the interweb. Got this thing at the flea market out of a box of tools. At first I thought it was for packing oakum as there were some old plumbing tools in with it.
Any ideas what it was used for? It is 8 inches end to end and an inch and a half across the face.

It looks like a masons hammer, but why is it sharp on both ends? Maybe it's been modified! The ones I have have a hammer head on one side. Larry on the corner should know what it's for! I had a JC Higgins bicycle when I was young, it was Sears brand name from 08 to 62.

Hey Russ, in my search I found that Sears sold a whole list of JC Higgins products. I did find a hammer like this someone was selling as an antique double cross peen. This one does not look like it has been used on rocks or bricks. Blacksmithing tool?

I used to help an old-time plumber some and he poured the lead over the oakum and then used a hammer and an offset tamping chisel.It looked like a cold chisel but not sharp and had a dog-leg in it.

It might be associated with masonry. I cheated and googled hammers. Closest I came up with is a scutch hammer. It’s used for scutching or removing old mortar from blocks and bricks.

This is a hammer for repairing/resharpening grist mill stones when the grooves get worn too wide for milling corn or small grains correctly. Some where in my junk I have a couple of them that came from an old water powered grist mill close to my maternal grandparents farm.

Just found a couple similar to that i9n with my Dad's girlfriends Dad's stuff. I say similar because it has one end parallel with the handle, and the other 90 degrees to it. In his case the man was a plumber, well driller, etc for a lot of years. I found quite a bit of tools he used for knocking in the oakum, pouring lead, etc. As others have said, I imagine a hammer like this would have had multiple uses, but I think the ultimate use would have been determined by the occupation of the man using it.
