LP vs Acetylene Cutting Tips

How does one determine whether a cutting tip is designed for acetylene or LP? Same question for welding tips. How do I tell the difference?

Thank you,
Glenn F.

My LP torch tip is a two piece inside flute slides out the back of tip, where as my acetylene is a one piece. Also the acet. tip has all of the tip holes on the outside to see and clean, as the LP has one 1/8 inch hole and gases mix internally. Welding tips I use came with the acetylene set and have used for both gases.

All the LP cutting tips I have are 2 piece. They have multiple grooves for preheat. I use Victor clone and Harris. Never tried very hard to weld with acetylene tips on LP. I can be done but not as hot.

I fear this forum is going the way of some other forums where anything goes. Including me. Personally, I prefer forums with decorum. (Hey, that rhymes!)

timcasbolt;

What specifically are you referring to? There was an ill-considered posting yesterday which got a few humorous responses before it got one that felt like it was crossing the "no politics" line. The next time I checked here, hours later, that post and any responses to it were gone. I assumed that the political response had opened that ugly can of worms, and that things had probably gotten our of hand. Considering how contentious discourse has become in America, I consider this site to be generally well behaved. I hope we can keep it that way.

Stan, I'm not going to take my comments any further. When I've had enough, I'll leave.

Very helpful.
It was meant to be.
ctually LP works fine for cutting with all the correct setup & it is well known that the elements of the gases of combustion are not correct for welding, so don't use the wrong tool (gas) for the job.

I have a Harris cutting torch. I bought it as a propane torch but it did not have a propane tip. For the Harris torch the propane tips are the NX series. For example, a NX-000 is for propane fuel to 3/16" plate thickness. They are two piece as others have posted. Harris has a website that lists the tips available as should other torch makers - just google for your make/model torch.
