HF metal cutting Chop saw

Back in 1990 I ordered a 14" chop saw from HF. It got here and was a Ryobi brand. I bought it to build a portible bandsaw, to mill out logs. It did a lot of cutting of metal in the last 27 years. A couple days back it shucked out a brush and broke the brush holder. I had replaced the brushes a couple years back with some from ereplacement parts, com, but had to file them down to fit into the holders.
I figured it was doomed when it died again a couple days back. Went on line to ereplacement parts.com but no parts listed for this model, so I went to HF with 20% off flier in hand to see what they had.
Low and behold the Chicago Electric saw they had on display had very similar looks to my old Ryobi as far as the motor housing and gear head was concerned. I bought it, and when unpacking it, there was an extra set of brushes with it. The brushes for the new CE saw fit my old one perfectly and the cap that holds the brush fit perfectly. I googled ereplacement parts, but they have no listing for CE tools.
Have any of you got a place to order CE parts?? If I can get a brush holder, I think I can get my old Ryobi up and running again. It is a model C356 sn#373473 There are parts listed for newer C356s but not for one this old. As I said the newer brushes are bigger, but as I said the brush holder broke this time and that is what I need.

Have you called the 800 number for Harbor Freight?

Several years back they got me a replacement crank handle for my drill press (Not a Harbor freight product, but enough like it the crank fit perfectly. It was a Craftsman, but almost identical to the HF drill press where I work. The part was NLA from Sears.)

Be warned they don't speak English too well in whatever foreign country they are in.

Did you ask at the store? Seems I saw a bag with a paper header hanging on a peg with brushes in a few years back. I haven't been in a HF store in a couple three years though.

I would just set the old one on the shelf and use the new one until it fails then take the two and make one. I have an old one (not Ryobi), don't use it much, but it is still going strong. Lucky us, Springfield, MO, now has 2 Harbor Freight stores.

Went online looked up HF 14" chop saw
downloaded manual for it
there is an exploded parts diagram
number to call for assistance

would think you have the same manual with your new chop saw

I bought one with a 25% off coupon (and had it shipped to me, since my nearest HF is 100 miles away). The base is stamped crap, at least it could have been die-cast pot metal. Other than that, for occasional use it's working fine. Think it cost around $70.

I didn't buy that one. It was only 2.5 HP and looked pretty flimsy compared to the bigger 3.5 HP one that I bought, and as I said it has the same motor/gear head as my 27 year old Ryobi, and mine will be used often for my fabrication projects. As I said both my old Ryobi and the new Chicago Electric have the same brush holders and brushes. I need a brush holder to get my old Ryobi back up and running. Neither Ryobi, or erepairparts.com offer those brush holders and brushes anymore. Ryobi switched to bigger ones in their newer models.

Loren, can you post a pic of the brush holder? I've a couple generations of that sort of thing in my shed/shop, but much of it is unmarked.
