[i:1934bf4393]Do you ever pull in icy conditions?

Are there hills and mountains where you spend as much time sliding down as going up?

Ever get tired of spending an hour on the roadside trying to chain up, so you end up skipping it and taking your chances??

Well, I'm here to tell you your worries are over! [/i:1934bf4393]

Wow, this is SUCH a cool idea!! The video was posted back in 2012 and has almost 2 million views, but this is something I can definitely see being necessary to those hauling freight in the frozen north. Hope you enjoy!!

I've seen another idea about a chain slinger thing, but I think I would be much more apt to trust this idea rather than the slinger!!

A few years back our local vol fire chief came to me and asked me if I knew anything
about the automatic air operated tire chains for trucks. I said a little, but they are
expensive. He said we have the money ,get us a set for our Freightliner pumper if you
can.I got them, installed them and over a year went by and they never got used. No fire
calls when it snowed. Then one morning at 6:00 AM the fire alarm went off. A house in the
steepest, hilly part of town had a bad flue fire. It had sleeted that night and started
snowing on top of that. One of the oldest members of the department got to the truck
first and one other member and they rolled out. When he rounded the corner and started
up the steep half a mile long road up to the house he said we will never make it, it
will burn down before we get there. The other member said, What about those fancy
automatic chains? The old driver said, I forget we even had them! He flipped the switch
and pulled right up to the front porch. They extinguished the fire and saved the house.
The chief called my that night and said, Your chains paid for themselves today. Now all
their trucks have them.

Having spent 20 years on a local rural Fire Dept, would have loved something like this. A couple of us
guys would always head to the fire barn if there was a storm and chain up our rescue truck and the big
pumper......... just in case

We used to manually chain up two of our FD trucks a half dozen times each winter. Now they have On Spots. The mechanic who does the service work recently put new ones on the rescue because the chains were getting worn out. They lasted nine years at two runs per week.

The only problem I see with it is the rear tires drive only unless you lock the power divider in. Then you better be on slippery ground or take the power divider out. If you get to a bare spot on the way up the hill it can take the divider out.
