Yesterday I felt kind of dumb regarding my chainsaw. But... last nite, I was vindicated.
One of our Pella sliding doors has been sounding rough and became hard to move recently. Figured it was the bearing in the roller. Removed the door last week, popped out the roller mechanism and sure enough, the bearing on one of the wheels was shot. I found the p/n for the roller ($8) but couldn't buy it anywhere :x so I ended up buying the whole mechanism ($22). Bought 2, figured I'd just replace both since the door would be off.
Well, last nite, I set out to fix it. Thought it would be a 15 minute job. Door was off in 5 minutes. Went to put the new mechanism in and I couldn't adjust the roller back up into the door far enough so the door would slip over the track. At full "up" adjustment, the roller stuck out below the door about 1/2". Same thing for both new units. What the....?
Since the old and new rollers were identical, I just popped the new roller out of the new mechanism and installed it into the old bracket. Then I took a closer look and found the adjusting screw and nut were assembled wrong on the new units! I disassembled/reassembled one of them, put the old roller in and sure enough, you could move it up into the bracket completely. It didn't stick out anymore. I'm tempted to write the aftermarket mfr and let them know that some guy in Mexico or China is putting them together wrong. One of the packages had been opened, so my guess it was returned because it didn't work right.
Anyway, after my ordeal with the Stihl chainsaw, I was strutting around last crowing to my wife how smart I was. Her response was predictable:
