feeling kind of dumb today

Bought a new Stihl 193 chainsaw few weeks back, nice and light for limbing. I've also got a Stihl MS361 as my main saw. Tested the 193 on a few limbs, worked great for about 5 minutes. Kept telling my wife it's "her" new saw. Got the "look". :x Anyway, we both went out to cut some deadfall blocking a trail 2 weeks ago. Laid both saws out on the tailgate of the truck, put gas and oil in them and the little one wouldn't start. Emptied the tank, put fresh gas in it, no go. Today I took it back to the dealer. Counter guy couldn't start it either. He opened the cap and asked what kind of mix. I said "why are you looking in the bar oil tank". He said "uh" and we both went "uh, oh". They emptied both tanks, refilled and it's running ok, they said it may be a little smokey. What probably got me is the gas tank is towards the bottom of the 391 and I just "assumed" it was the same on the 193. Turns out it's the one on the top and bar oil is towards the bottom. Anyway, my wife will be thrilled to hear that even I make mistakes.

Hello JML755,

Yes! Just a couple of weeks ago. Distracted by my neighbor I had the switch off while he was watching!
His weed trimmer started easy with the switch on, embarrassing!!!!!

Guido.

I did that one time but caught it soon after!
Now I make sure the fuel cap is red, if it isn't a little paint works wonders!

They say a person who hasn't made a mistake never did anything. SO,I make lost of mistakes so people will think I do a lot of work. Duh, Duh

I worked on a transfer switch for an hour. Because it wouldn't transfer. Then I noticed the transfer motor switch off. Turned it on and left.

My wife put diesel fuel in a gasoline burning garden tractor once. I drained the tank filled with gasoline, got it to running again, and no harm done.

She also put gasoline into an Olds diesel once. Couldn't prove a connection, but three weeks later had to have the head gaskets replaced.

Well, this had a happier ending than I thought it was going to.

I saw "laid them on the tailgate" and thought "drove away, never to be seen again", or "someone picked them up"!

Add me to the list. I did the same thing years ago on one of those little McCulloh Mini-macs, only I had to take the little carb apart and flush it out before it would run again.

A man at work brought in a like new Stihl string trimmer. He picked it up at a yard sale for $5, not running.

I looked at it, it smelled funny. Sure enough, diesel in the gas tank! All that was wrong with it!

I left the lawn tractor switch on while checking electric clutch. Ran battery down overnite. Charged it nothing. Finally got back to it 6 weeks later hand found clutch switch on right away. Cranked right over. Now to find extra good clutch.

I was cutting brush once, saw was
getting low on fuel my coworker went to
refuel it for me and brought it back.
Started cutting and just as saw started
running funny all the sudden the bar
caught fire in an interesting fan of
flames and I realized what he had done!
